Effects of Melatonin on the Expression of Bcl-2 and Bax Genes in Skin of Cashmere Goat

Abstract: 【Objective】The present study was aimed to research the effects of melatonin on the expression of Bcl-2 and Bax genes in the skin of Inner Mongolia Cashmere goat, then discuss the relationships between Bcl-2, Bax, and melatonin and the growth and apoptosis of cashmere goat. 【Method】 Eight Inner Mongolia Cashmere goats, with the same age, sex and liveweight were chosen. Four of them were treated with melatonin, the rest were used as control. Total RNA of skin was extracted, and expression of Bcl-2 and Bax genes were analyzed by real-time PCR. 【Result】 The changing characteristics of Bcl-2/Bax coincided with the growth rhythm of cashmere of Inner Mongolia Cashmere goat. Melatonin had no significant effects on expression of Bcl-2 gene (P>0.05), but significantly up-regulated the Bax gene (P<0.01). 【Conclusion】 Melatonin down-regulated the ratio of Bcl-2/Bax in the skin of Inner Mongolia Cashmere goat, which promoted the apoptosis and accelerated the metabolism.
