Review and Prospects of Research of Foundation and Utilization of Chinese Indigenous Chicken Resources GeneBank

Abstract: On the basis of indigenous breed investigation, rescue and protection as well as measurement of genetic characteristics and exploration of conservation methods, the GeneBank of Chinese indigenous chicken breeds was set up by Institute of Poultry Science, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Science. It was the first GeneBank of live chicken resources in China, and also the largest in the world. So far, it has conserved 27 Chinese indigenous chicken breeds and has produced high social and economic benefits to Chinese poultry industry.
