Abstract: The current situation of commercial production of transgenic plants in the world and China was summarized in this paper. It showed that the commercial production of transgenic plants in China has made a great progress and has reached an advanced level in some transgenic crops, and that China has become the fifth country in cultivated area of transgenic crops in the world. However, China is still in the developing stage and still has a long way to go as compared with the developed countries. The insufficiency in the study of transgenic plants and the reasons for lagged commercialization were analyzed. The prospects and strategies for industrialization of genetically modified plants were also proposed in the paper.
