2603 ZHANG Jun-qin et al. Journal of Integrative Agriculture 2019, 18(11): 2598–2604 We predict that booster immunization stimulates strong antibody responses. Further studies may focus on the detection of neutralizing antibodies and virus shedding. Recently, many virulent strains of FAdV-4 causing HHS have been isolated in China (Li et al . 2016, 2018; Liu et al . 2016; Guan et al . 2018). All these virulent strains cause severe clinical and histological lesions by intramuscular infection. Our result shows that the virulent strain HB1502 used in our research can also lead to severe lesions by intramuscular injection. But chickens vaccinated recombinant proteins were spared from post-mortem and histological symptoms caused by FAdV-4 (Fig. 3). 5. Conclusion In this study, two recombinant baculovirus-expressed FAdV-4 capsid proteins, penton base and fiber-2, were constructed. Administrating penton base protein solely or alone with fiber-2 provides 100% protection. So baculorvirus-expressed penton base protein may be a promising candidate subunit vaccine against HHS. In conclusion, baculorvirus-expressed penton base protein is a promising candidate subunit vaccine against HHS.
