Agricultural Sciences in China

Agricultural Sciences in China (ASC) was established in 2002, and it is an English journal published monthly. The journal is sponsored by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS), which is a national agricultural research organization with the highest academy level in the area in China. The president of CAAS Dr Zhai Hu-qu serves as the Editor-in-Chief of ASC. And ASC has a strong editorial board that is influential in policy making and research strategy and priority setting in the country. The Members of the Editorial Board of ASC are composed of well known scientists from China and abroad. The Board members not only take part in peer review of articles, but also give advice on the direction of development of the journal. They play a very important role in keeping the journal at a high level in the journals covering the related subjects in China.

As an only comprehensive English journal in agriculture in China, ASC almost covers all the subjects in various agronomy and animal husbandry areas. The headings include: Crop Genetics & Breeding, Germplasm Resources, Molecular Genetics, Tillage & Cultivation, Physiology & Biochemistry, Ecology & Environment, Soil & Fertilization, Irrigation, Horticulture, Storage, Fresh-keeping, Processing, Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Resource Insect, Review, Monograph and Research Notes.

Agricultural Sciences in China published initially in January, 2002. About 40% comes from the contributions home and abroad, another 60% articles are selected and translated from its Chinese version Scientia Agricultura Sinica (SAS), which is another official publication in Chinese of CAAS. SAS has been awarded the first-class prizes of the National Journal Prize in 1999-2004 in China, and gained national funds provided by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC). The impact factor of Scientia Agricultura Sinica is continuously at the top of all the agricultural journals from 1997 to 2006 in China.

The newly-born ASC has made a great progress since its starting in 2002. The foundation article percentage of ASC has reached to around 95% in 2005, which is much higher than the average rate of 34% for the Chinese journals (CJCR report). Furthermore, the national-level found, i.e., 863, 973 and National Natural Science Foundation, etc. contributes about 73% to all foundations, indicating majority papers in ASC comes from the researches under the national large-scale programs. In fact, the researches published in ASC have focused on the national key large-scale scientific programs of China from its starting. From time to time, ASC publishes review articles on issues of great importance in science and policy in China. Especially, the top scientists like Dr James A. Birchler, Dr. Yuan-longping, Dr. Gai Junyi have published their research papers in ASC.

On the other hand, ASC has been included by Abstracts Journal, Zoological Record, CABI in the word, and included by almost all the main indexes in China. Since January of 2006, we have cooperated with ELSEVIER and ScienceDirect has been a platform for Agricultural Sciences in China to spread worldwide.
